DJ Erick Morillo, ‘I Like to Move It’ Singer, Dies at 49

Colombian disc jockey and music producer, DJ Erick Morillo, renowned for his 1993 hit, I Like to Move It has passed away. He was 49.

While the cause of his death remains unknown, his body was said to have been found on Tuesday morning at Miami Beach.

His death comes weeks after he was as charged with sexual battery on a Florida woman. The accuser claimed she along with another woman went to his home for drinks after DJ’ing a party. Both Morillo and the accuser were working as DJs at a private party on Star Island in Miami Beach.

Erick Morillo was a three-time winner of best international DJ at the DJ Awards.

According to her, while they were in the pool, Morillo “made several sexual advances” towards her. After she refused all of his attempts, he apologised.

After having drinks with him the accuser said went to sleep in another room. She then woke up nude on the bed “with Mr. Morillo standing on the side of the bed, also nude.” 

She felt “post-sex pain” and had “flashes” of the accused performing a sex act on her.

After a rape kit tested positive for his DNA, Morillo turned himself in on August 6.

The deceased became famous due to his electro dance track I Like To Movie It; which he released in 1993 under the pseudonym Reel 2 Real. It was featured in several commercials and movies.

DJ Erick Morillo was a three-time winner of DJ Awards “Best House DJ” in 1998, 2001, and 2003 and a three-time winner of “Best International DJ” in 2002, 2006, and 2009.
