Renowned Nigerian disc jockey DJ Neptune has opened up about the most impressive artist he’s ever worked with, naming the late rapper Da Grin as the standout talent.
In a recent interview with Hip TV, Neptune revealed that although he has collaborated with many talented musicians, Da Grin left the most lasting impression. He recalled their studio session for the remix of the track ‘123’, where the rapper delivered his verse in under eight minutes.

“If there’s one artist I respect so much, it’s Da Grin,” Neptune said. “When we recorded the remix of ‘123’, he came into the studio and laid down his verse in just eight minutes. I was blown away,” he said.

Tragically, Neptune revealed that this would be the last time he saw the rapper, as Da Grin died just two days later in a fatal car accident.

During the interview, Neptune also spoke about his early introduction to music and how he pursued his passion despite his father’s disapproval. His father, a mechanical engineer, was initially hesitant about his choice of career.
Neptune’s admiration reflects the broader sentiment among fans and fellow artists, who regard Da Grin as one of Nigerian hip hop’s most gifted voices. His 2009 album ‘CEO’ gained massive acclaim, especially after his untimely passing.
In a career that has spanned over 10 years, Neptune has become one of Nigeria’s most popular DJs, who has collaborated with many Afrobeats hitmakers, including Davido, Burna Boy, Omah Lay, and more.
In 2020, his hit song ‘Nobody’ featuring Mr. Eazi and Joeboy enjoyed huge success and won the Headies Awards for Song of the Year.
