Elton John: Ex-wife Sues Singer Over Autobiography

Elton John, renowned English singer, has received a £3m lawsuit from Renate Blauel, his ex-wife for revealing details of their marriage in his autobiography, Me, which was released in 2019.

In the suit which was filed at London’s High court this week, Blauel, 67 claims that the comments made by the singer in his book, broke the terms of an agreement they made when they split 32-years-ago, and triggered existing mental health problems.

In the book, John wrote that he regretted breaking his ex-wife’s heart. He also revealed that he had wanted her to meet his children, whom he shares with his husband David Furnish.

“I wanted her to be part of our lives, and us part of hers, in some way. But she didn’t want to, and I didn’t push the issue. I have to respect how she feels,” he wrote.

According to The Sun, sources claim that the singer is shocked over his ex-wife’s reaction to the autobiography.

“Elton is shocked and saddened by Renate’s claim. Especially as he has only ever praised her publicly,” a source was quoted to have said.

“He has always had a very pleasant relationship with Renate, respects her enormously and would never have said anything revealing about their marriage.”

Elton John and Blauel met in 1983 while John was working on his Too Low for Zero album. They pair got married on Valentine’s Day 1984 in Australia; and divorced four years later before the singer came out as gay.
