#EndSARS: Lagos Fashion Week Postponed Indefinitely

In the aftermath of the Nigerian government’s violent crackdown of the #EndSARS protests; the organizers of the Lagos Fashion Week have postponed the event indefinitely. The show organisers of the popular fashion event announced the news via their Instagram page.

“The events of the last few days have borne a deep sense of grief. With this grief guiding our steps and out of respect to those that have had their lives unjustly taken from them; coupled with the current state of affairs in the country, Lagos Fashion Week 2020 is POSTPONED,” the post read.

Lagos Fashion Week 2020 Postponed — The events of the last few days have borne a deep sense of grief. With this grief guiding our steps and out of respect to those that have had their lives unjustly taken from them coupled with the current state of affairs in the country, Lagos Fashion Week 2020 is POSTPONED. Since the onset of the peaceful protests, two weeks ago, Lagos Fashion Week has stood alongside the protesters and we remain steadfast in our commitment to support the movement to #EndSars and #EndPoliceBrutality. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with the families that have lost loved ones. The Labour of our heroes past, shall NEVER be in vain. It is upon their memory that this country will be ultimately forced to change. And we will honour them by persevering in this fight to create the Nigeria we deserve. A country conducive for ALL to thrive. A new date will be communicated in due time. Thank you to everyone that has lent their time, voice and resources to securing positive change. 20.10.2020 we will never forget.

Lagos Fashion Week has been a fervent supporter of the #EndSARS movement, given that young people are the driving force of fashion. They have lent their voice to the movement from the start, as creatives are the major victims of the supposedly defunct murderous police unit SARS.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the second unprecedented event to alter schedules and, more importantly, lives, in 2020.
