#EndSARS: Naira Marley Suspends Planned Protest

Popular singer, Naira Marley has suspended his plan to lead a protest against police brutality in Nigeria.

As earlier reported on eelive.ng, a 22-year-old man, Joshua Ambrose was attacked by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a development that triggered an outcry from members of the public.

Following the incident, Naira Marley joined other Nigerians to enlist the extra-judicial killings, wanton arrests, and dispossession of properties through physical assault and other intimidation tactics that were often carried out by the notorious police unit.

And in order to speak louder and make his voice heard, he announced to lead the protest, which was to hold today (Tuesday, October 6, 2020). But according to the music star, the protest would no longer hold as planned.

“We won’t be protesting anymore because there’s a lot of changes being made right now.

“As a Marlian we will give them a week to see the changes and if there’s no changes we will start a mass protest. #togetherwecan,” he tweeted.

Prior to the suspension of the protest, Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, had urged Naira Marley to stop the protest against the excesses of SARS.

“I urge you and other youth not to embark upon any protest. Your grievances are being addressed at the highest level of government. As the Minister in charge of youth I know this is an issue that must be tackled. Government is doing just that,” Dare wrote Naira Marley.
