Patrick Doyle, a well-known Nollywood actor, has criticized fellow actors who support politicians for personal gain, calling this behavior “greedy”.
In an interview with Oyinmomo TV, Doyle said that entertainers who are already financially secure should speak up for the public instead of looking for personal rewards from political connections.
The 64-year-old actor also shared that some filmmakers argue with each other over the money they get from politicians after supporting their campaigns.
“Many of the entertainers are greedy. Because if you consider the entertainment industry very well, actors are getting fed well from their income,” he said in Yoruba.

“And if you are comfortable and want to help, you should not be seeking personal benefits anymore. They should speak for the people.
“Most of the entertainers I saw campaigning seemed genuine, but after the campaign, they still ended up fighting each other over the money.
“The problem is just greed.
Doyle also said that acting is an art and should stay free from government influence.
“For years, the line between acting and politics has become less clear, with more entertainers leaving the screen to openly show their political support,” he continued.

“The spark of that involvement had ignited a wildfire during the last presidential election. The entertainment industry found itself split down the middle, fractured by clashing presidential allegiances.
“Some actors became targets and were subjected to physical and online abuse.”
