Afrobeats singer and Grammy winning songwriter, Tems, has stirred conversations online with a bold reminder about her contribution to the global hit song “Essence.”
Tems shared a post via her Instagram story, the soulful artist made it clear that while the song may have changed lives, credit should be given where it’s due.
“They keep saying Essence changed lives true, but let’s not forget who penned it. Love Wiz, but his fans be moving mad sometimes,” she wrote.

“Essence,” which was released in 2020 by Wizkid featuring Tems, became a worldwide anthem and one of the biggest African songs to break into global charts.
However, Tems’ latest post has reignited the conversation around songwriting credits and artistic recognition, especially in collaborations where the lead artist often overshadows the featured acts.
