Kunle Anikulapo-Kuti, son of the iconic Afrobeat creator Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has shared a mind blowing revelation about the icon himself which has left many stunned.
In an interview with TheCable, Kunle revealed that his father had turned down a million dollar deal from an international record label in the 90s, preserving his unwavering commitment to the African roots.

The Kuti said: “I’ve seen Fela turn down a million dollar deal from a record company. He told them “My music is for Africa. Europe, America, they are developed. We are underdeveloped so my music is represents the challenge we have here.”

Kuti recounted the moment the whole family stared as the head of the family blankly as he pushed away a good fortune. To Fela, Afrobeat was not a product to be sold, it was a living protest against military rule, rampant corruption, poverty, and the enduring effects of colonialism—issues that hit hardest at home.
In an era when such money could have changed lives overnight in Nigeria, Fela on his on path, decided to keep vibing in the Afrika Shrine with everyday people, charging little or nothing, and letting his powerful lyrics cut straight to the bone of power without dilution.
