A Nigerian TikToker known as Mirabel has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command over false rape claims.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, made this known in a statement on Friday, disclosing that the content creator is now in police custody.
He further explained that the investigation is still ongoing and that further steps would depend on the findings.
“We have her. Investigations will explain the next line of action,” he told Peoples Gazette.
The controversy emerged after a TikToker, Mirabel, shared emotional videos claiming she had been raped in her Ogun State home by an intruder who allegedly threatened her and boasted of family connections that would shield him from consequences.
The story quickly went viral, sparking widespread outrage, the hashtag #JusticeForMirabel, and renewed national conversations about rape culture, victim safety, and accountability in Nigeria.
However, the case took a turn when Mirabel retracted her claims, admitting in a viral audio that parts of her story were false and apologising to the public.
