Reality television personality and former Big Brother Naija housemate Maria Chike Benjamin has publicly addressed long-standing accusations that labelled her a home wrecker.
She spoke about the controversy during a recent podcast interview with media host Chude Jideonwo, offering her side of the story.
During the candid conversation, Chike explained that the backlash surrounding her relationship with her husband, Kelvin Anene, was based on what she described as misunderstandings and distorted narratives.
She firmly stated that she was unaware of his marital status at the beginning of their relationship. According to her, she did not knowingly become involved with a married man.
In her words: “I wasn’t aware that he was married when we started dating. I do not feel obligated to explain her private life to the public.
“I don’t owe people my personal life. I am not a saint and I’m nobody’s role model because I’m for me. Whoever loves me can then decide to follow my steps.”

In her view, people are free to admire or criticise her, but she maintains the right to keep certain aspects of her life personal. Addressing the allegations directly, Maria strongly denied claims that she contributed to the breakdown of any marriage. She insisted that she would never intentionally harm another woman’s home, emphasising that she understands the emotional pain associated with infidelity.
