Google’s 2025 Year in Search report has revealed the people, moments and trends that captured Nigerians’ attention over the past year, with entertainers dominating online curiosity.
Google annual rankings are compiled from search queries that recorded the highest growth compared to the previous year, offering a snapshot of what Nigerians were most interested in across news, entertainment, music, film, technology and viral internet trends.
In the entertainment category, rising star Fola, Afrobeats heavyweight Mr Eazi, and veteran actress Peju Ogunmola emerged among the most searched entertainers in Nigeria in 2025.

Other entertainers who featured prominently in Google’s search trends include Aaron Pierre, Chika Ike, Juma Jux, Kemi Adetiba, Kim Sae Ron, Mavo and Teyana Taylor, reflecting a mix of Nollywood, international cinema and global music appeal.
Google’s data also showed that news-related topics were the most searched overall, driven by major national and global events throughout the year.
Searches related to death and loss ranked high, as Nigerians sought information on notable figures who passed away in 2025. Names that recorded significant search interest include Diogo Jota, Muhammadu Buhari, Charlie Kirk, Pope Francis, Hulk Hogan, Uma Ukpai, Peter Rufai, Sanku, Nkechi Nweje and Doyin Okupe.
Music continued to be a major driver of online searches, with Nigerians frequently looking up songs and lyrics such as Oluwatosin, Joy Is Coming, With You by Davido featuring Omah Lay, Laho by Shallipopi, as well as Arike and Money by Teni.
Film and television content also shaped search behaviour in 2025. Popular titles Nigerians searched for include Straw, To Kill a Monkey, Fantastic Four, Final Destination, Squid Game, Wednesday season two, and Koleoso, showing strong interest in both local productions and international series.
