Nollywood actress cum filmmaker, Funke Akindele, is set to light up the forthcoming holiday season once again with another Nollywood blockbuster, which will premiere in cinemas on December 11.
The Nollywood powerhouse has officially announced her latest movie titled ‘FOUR’ marking her four consecutive December release.
The award-winning actress shared the premiere date in a statement on Monday, describing the film as an emotional drama that looks at friendship, motherhood, resilience, and the strength of everyday women.
The cast features Akindele, Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Ali Nuhu, Uzor Arukwe, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Antar Laniyan, and Wunmi Toriola.
Award-winning singer Waje and Afrobeats artist Shoday appear in the film, along with entertainment personalities Samuel Banks, Kolapo Omotosho, and Ayomide Iwasokun.
Akindele, who is the writer, director, and producer of the project, said the film is meant to connect with audiences on a personal level.
“Audiences have grown with us over the years, and they expect stories that entertain while reflecting who we are,” she said.
“With The Four, we are exploring the relationships that shape us, challenge us and stay with us. I think audiences will find a part of themselves in this story.”
Akindele rose to prominence in 2008 with her commercially successful movie ‘Jenifa’ and has since established herself as one of Nollywood’s leading figures, with numerous awards and accolades to her name.
Her box-office dominance has been a relentless march. In 2023, her film ‘Battle On Buka Street’ became Nollywood’s highest-grossing title with N640 million.
She then shattered the industry’s ceiling in January 2024 when ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ became the first Nollywood movie to reach N1 billion at the box office.
Later that same year, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ set a new regional record, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time in West Africa with N1.88 billion.
Her 2025 cinematic offering ‘Behind The Scenes‘ surpassed the N2 billion mark at the box office, setting an unprecedented record for African cinema.
