Gospel Singer Yinka Alaseyori Apologises Over Controversial Prayer Video Amid Oyo Schoolchildren Kidnapping Crisis

Popular gospel singer Adeyinka Alaseyori (also known as Yinka Alaseyori) has tendered a public apology to Nigerians following widespread backlash over her recent video comments on the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

In a video posted two days ago, the singer prayed for the safe release of the victims while defending President Bola Tinubu and security agencies. She claimed they “are working” but suggested spiritual forces might be “covering their eyes,” preventing them from locating the kidnappers, and urged intensified national prayers.

The remarks, made amid public anger over the May 15 abduction of approximately 39–46 pupils and seven teachers from three schools in Oriire LGA near Ogbomoso, sparked outrage. Many accused her of being insensitive and overly defensive of the government as families continue to await the victims’ release more than two weeks later.

In her apology, Alaseyori said: “Please Nigerians forgive me if I have ever made you feel offended. I did a video two days ago, about one hour 30 minutes long, praying for the kidnapped Oyo State school children and teachers. I woke up a day later and discovered that many Nigerians were feeling offended with the video. I also discovered that the video was cut and joined.”

Nigerians are calling for accountability for the government of the state of security in this country and kidnappings continues to intensify leaving many in fear.
