Grammy Awards introduce a new category, ‘Best African Music Performance’
The Grammy Awards have announced the addition of three new categories for the upcoming 2024 edition.
These new categories are Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording.
Last year, the Grammys introduced two new categories, Best Songwriter and Best Song for Change.
The inclusion of the Best African Music Performance category is particularly significant for African artists, especially those in the Afrobeats genre.
Previously, Nigerian and African superstars competed in the Best Global Music Performance category. Notable artists like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Femi Kuti, and Angelique Kidjo received nominations.
South African artists Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini, and Nomcebo Zikode won the Best Global Music Performance Category of the previous year with their single ‘Bayethe’.
The introduction of the new African category will provide African stars with an enhanced opportunity to win the prestigious Grammy Award.
