Grammy Awards: Nigerian Artistes with Most Nominations
The 63rd edition of the Grammy Awards is billed to hold on March 14.
The ceremony will see musicians around the world honoured in various categories. Nigeria is not left out as well, Burna Boy‘s Twice as tall was nominated for the Best World Music Album.
As the award ceremony edges closer, eelive.ng puts together a list of the Nigerian Artistes with the highest Grammy nominations.
Femi Kuti (Four Nominations)
Top on the list of the most nominated Nigerian musicians is Femi Kuti. Born in London in 1962, he is the eldest son of afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo- Kuti. He began his musical career playing in his father’s band, Egypt 80. In 1986, the singer started his own band, Positive Force, establishing himself as an artist independent of his father’s massive legacy.
He has been nominated four times for the World Music Album category of the Grammy Awards. The albums that got him Grammy nominations are First To win (2003), Day by Day (2010), Africa for Africa (2012) and No Place for My Dream.
King Sunny Ade (Two Nominations)
King Sunny Ade is a Nigerian juju singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is regarded as one of the first African pop musicians to gain international success, and has been called one of the most influential musicians of all time.
KSA became the first Nigerian musician to receive a Grammy nomination for his 1983 album, Synchro System. His 1998 album, Odu also got nominated. The music-star currently serves as chairperson of the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria.

Burna Boy (Two Nominations)
Nigerian singer and songwriter, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, is one of the biggest and most successful African artistes. He rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing Like to Party, the lead single from his 2013 debut studio album L.I.F.E. His third studio album, Outside gave him international recognition.
The Wonderful crooner won his first Grammy nomination after his fourth studio album, African Giant, was nominated for the Best World Music Album category at the 62nd edition of the Grammy Awards held in 2019. In 2020, his album Twice as Tall was nominated for the same category at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards; making him the first Nigerian with back-to-back nominations.
