The Kano Hisbah board has banned the mobile movie download business, often called “downloading”, throughout the state.
Mujahid Aminuddeen, the board’s deputy commander general, explained that the ban aims to protect young people from moral decline and limit the spread of harmful content.
He mentioned that the board received complaints about some operators sharing videos that negatively affected children and young people.

He also said that investigations found some operators were using the business to share pornographic videos and other materials seen as offensive to Islamic teachings, cultural values, and public morals.
“Our findings show that this business contributes to the spread of films and videos that contain content contrary to religion, our culture and good morals,” he said.
“That is why we have decided to stop the business to protect young people from moral decay and reduce the circulation of harmful content.”
Aminuddeen encouraged those affected by the ban to seek other legal means of earning a living.
He said that Hisbah officers have been sent across the state to enforce the ban and warned that anyone who breaks the rule will face legal action under Kano state laws.
“The board has deployed its personnel to monitor compliance through routine patrols and enforcement operations across the state,” he added.
“Anyone found violating the directive will face legal action in accordance with the laws of Kano State.”
