Nigerian singer Joeboy has revealed how a cover song changed his life forever.
The ‘Beginning’ hitmaker, during a recent interview, disclosed that he started out with no industry connections and had to turn to social media to get noticed.
“We didn’t have any access to the industry. We believed the best way for us to be seen or heard was to do covers of popular songs,” he said.
According to Joeboy, one of those covers was Ed Sheeran’s global hit ‘Shape of You,’ which he recorded and posted on Instagram.

The 28-year-old artiste disclosed that a friend then sent the video to several established musicians, including Mr Eazi.
“It went viral… and a friend of mine tried to send the video to a bunch of established artists. Mr Eazi was one of them and that’s how we started talking,” he explained.

He added that the cover’s virality led to his meeting with Mr Eazi and eventually transformed his career.
“I got signed to Mr Eazi through social media,” he said.
“I thank God for Ed Sheeran for making that song. Who would have known?”
