How is Dr Dre’s Current Relationship With His Father?
The accomplishments of Hip-hop mogul, Andre Romelle Young, professionally known as Dr. Dre in terms of commercial clout, artistic influence and longevity can’t be understated.
In 2020, he was named the top earning musical artiste of the decade by Forbes. The mogul earned the honour with a staggering $950 milion USD in the last 10 years.
Having released his last album (Compton) back in 2015, the legendary producer, rapper, entrepreneur, and audio engineer’s earning have come from his 20 percent stake in Beats, which was acquired by Apple in 2014 for $3 billion USD.
Despite his accomplishments, Dr Dre has been the subject of numerous accusations from his family, with the latest coming from his father, Theodore Young.
In a recent interview with Page Six, Theodore, 73, said that he has no relationship with the hip-hop mogul. and claimed Dre doesn’t give a “damn” about him.
“I haven’t seen Andre since his grandfather died and I can’t even remember when that was. We have no relationship. My other sons love me. They tell me they love me,” he said.
“But coming from where I come from, most young men like Andre who have a big success don’t give a damn about their dad.”
Dr Dre‘s parents split shortly after his birth. His mother Verna, who was pregnant at 16, had claimed that Theodore was abusive during their relationship, an allegation he denies.

The hip hop mogul was raised by his grandmother and mother and has kept his distance from father. Theodore also admitted that he wasn’t exactly a pillar of love and support during Dre‘s childhood.
“His grandmother raised him,” he said. “His mother and grandmother sprinkled a whole lot of salt on me.”
In early December, Dre‘s daughter, LaTanya Young had revealed she hasn’t heard from her father in 17 years. He fathered LaTanya with an ex-girlfriend named Lisa Johnson over 37 years ago, alongside two other children, Latoya, 36, and Ashley, 35. Dre also has two adult children with estranged wife Nicole Young named Truice and Truly.
LaTanya had accused Nicole of standing in the way of their relationship and insisted she just wants to have Dre in her life.
“She was very standoffish and mysterious,” she told The Daily Mail. “I got the impression she didn’t care to know any of us.”
“Money is not what I want, I feel better doing it on my own,” she said. “I really just want to have closure. I just want to be able to spend time with my father.”
This comes amid Dre‘s recovery from brain aneurysm hospitalization and messy divorce battle with Nicole Young.
