Nigerian actor Daniel Etim Effiong has ignited widespread outrage on social media after advising wives on how to handle a cheating husband.
In a clip from the Dear Ife series, he said: “If your husband cheats, the first thing is to find how to help him come out of the problem. Don’t be self-seeking about it.”
The comment has been heavily criticised as victim-blaming. Many netizens expressed frustration over the expectation that women should shoulder the emotional burden. Popular media personality Daddy Freeze wrote, “Is he an infant in your hands? It’s now your duty as a woman to find out why your husband can’t keep his thing in his pants.”

Another user reacted: “I respect Daniel Etim Effiong but he should stop granting interviews about marriage and cheating. He always says a lot of stupid things.”
Another user quipped: “I hope he will do same if his wife cheats? He won’t start begging Chike.”
Discussions also resurfaced statements from his wife, Toyosi Etim-Effiong, who once said cheating is “not a deal breaker” for her and runs a prayer group for wives of entertainers.
While some supported empathy in marriage, the majority mocked the advice. The backlash highlights ongoing tensions in Nigerian discourse around marriage, accountability, and gender roles, especially on the heels of popular TV host Frank Edoho’s highly publicised failed second marriage.
