The Ultimate Troll: How the Presidency Used an AI-Generated Remi Tinubu to Taunt Critics

The Presidency has responded to criticism that followed comments made by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, by sharing an AI-generated image depicting her as an akara seller.

The image, posted on the Presidency’s official social media platforms, surfaced just days after the First Lady came under fire over her remarks on small-scale businesses and entrepreneurship.

Speaking during a recent interview, Oluremi Tinubu said ventures such as frying akara, roasting corn and producing kuli kuli require relatively little capital to start.

She explained that the Federal Government is supporting aspiring entrepreneurs through grants rather than loans, describing the initiative as part of efforts to improve livelihoods and renew hope among Nigerians.

She said: “We’re trying to give hope, and to start akara business doesn’t take a lot of money. To start roasting corn, or somebody even said kuli kuli doesn’t take much. We didn’t give them a loan; we gave it to them as a grant.”

Following the backlash to her comments, the Presidency appeared to respond with humour by publishing an AI-generated illustration of the First Lady standing behind a roadside akara stand.

In the image, the apron she is wearing bears the inscription, “Iya Alakara, fueling the nation with love.”
