Nigerian Gospel Musicians Reacted to Kwara Church Attack

Top Nigerian gospel singers have taken to social media to condemn the latest church attack in Eruku, a boundary town in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, where gunmen killed worshippers and abducted several others.

A viral video showed the moment armed men invaded a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) branch during a Tuesday evening service, opening fire on congregants at Oke Isegun Church. At least three people were confirmed dead, while many others were forced into the bush at gunpoint.

An eyewitness recounted: “The gunmen arrived suddenly and began shooting. Three people were killed instantly. They gathered others at gunpoint and marched them into the bush. We still don’t know how many were taken.”

Another resident, shaken by the incident, added: “They came in the evening and started shooting. Two people died instantly, and we still don’t know the number of those abducted.”

Gospel Singers Condemn Attack

Prominent gospel artistes including Dunsin Oyekan, Pastor Nathaniel Bassey, and Victoria Orenze expressed outrage over the renewed violence against Christians and the rising wave of insecurity.

Dunsin Oyekan

Oyekan called for divine justice, writing:“May the Lord judge the enemies of this nation once and for all in this season. These killings are too much, senseless and cruel! Psalm 82:1–8 is my prayer in this season… And we have a government ooo. Haba! This is too much.”

Dunsin Oyekan

Bassey on the other hand, described the attack as part of a larger assault on the soul of the nation, insisting that the season of judgment for evil must not be missed: “This is the time for the enemies of this nation to be judged,  terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and all who sponsor them. Nigeria is one of the greatest nations on earth, and that is why there is such contention against its destiny.

Nathaniel Bassey

Like in Deuteronomy 7, there are enemies we must conquer. If we ignore these evils, the destiny of this nation will remain a wish.
Every person or group determined to keep Nigeria in turmoil, may their end come NOW, in Jesus’ name. Peace shall reign in Nigeria.”

Orenze expressed grief but reaffirmed her faith in God’s promise for the nation: “My Nigeria, my heart bleeds, but I refuse to be hopeless. Out of this darkness, great light is shining!
There is a vision for you, a plan by your architect. You are a nation under God. Though your failures are many and your children are wailing, your time is not over. God is not through with you. We will see the end of wicked men, wicked leaders, wicked politicians, and wicked citizens in this nation!”
