Hushpuppi’s sentencing adjourned for third time in seven months

Nigerian socialite, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi has had his sentencing postponed for the third time by the United States attorney’s office in the central district of California.

His sentencing is now scheduled for November.

However, BBC Pidgin quoted Ciaran Mc Evoy, spokesperson at the US attorney office, as saying the sentencing will now hold on November 3.

Similarly, Premium Times, cited a court notice. Saying Otis Wright, the trial judge, fixed November 7 as the date to sentence Hushpuppi.

The notice reportedly read, “Counsel are notified, the sentencing is continued to November 7, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. as to Defendant Ramon Olorunwa Abbas.”

This is not the first time the court is postponing his sentence date. In fact, it is the third time it will be adjusted since his conviction last year.

He was earlier expected to be sentenced on February 14 but the court adjourned the case to July 11. The court session was again shifted to September 11.

This is all coming after Hushpuppi was arrested in the UAE back in June 2020 alongside 11 of his associates. It was over allegations bordering on hacking, impersonation, scamming, banking fraud, and identity theft.

He was accused of defrauding 1.9 million victims to the tune of N168 billion.

He later pled guilty to money laundering, putting him at the risk of 20 years imprisonment.
