Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr has opened up about what it was like collaborating with Grammy award -winning artist, Wizkid praising the Afrobeats star as a true pioneer and source of inspiration.
Speaking in an interview after her performance at the Grammy Museum on Tuesday, the Rush hitmaker recalled that her first studio experience with Wizkid felt almost unreal.
She admitted she was overwhelmed at the time and found it difficult to stay focused because she was in awe of his presence.
According to Starr, their second collaboration told a very different story. Wizkid arrived on her set composed and at ease, a quality she said left a lasting impression on her. She noted that his quiet confidence and clarity of purpose taught her an important lesson about self-belief.

She said: “He’s a legend, a leading one. The first time I worked with him, I was so starstruck that I don’t think I was fully present. But the second time, he came to my set and was just calm, cool, and relaxed. He showed me that confidence doesn’t have to be loud. He’s very grounded, very sure of his mission, and I learned a lot from that.”
This is not the first time the singer has expressed admiration for Wizkid. Back in August, she described him as the “king of sexy Afrobeats.”
Both artistes have collaborated twice so far. Their first joint effort, 2 Sugar, appeared on Wizkid’s 2022 album More Love, Less Ego. They later reunited on Gimme Dat, a track from Ayra Starr released in April.
