‘I never really sang in fifth harmony’ — Normani

American singer and dancer, Normani, has revealed that she felt disregarded in her former band Fifth Harmony

Fifth harmony was  one of the biggest girl groups of the 2010s. However, it was disbanded in 2018. Since then the star has made a name for herself in the American music industry, flying solo.

Normani has been open about her time in Fifth Harmony. According to her, being in the girl group was not as glamorous as interviews and red carpets made it appear.

She revealed that one of her bandmates was problematic with past racist tweets coming to light, she became a target for racist Internet trolls and was told to blend in during her time in Fifth Harmony.

The actress stated,

“I’ve always felt like the underdog in anything that I’ve ever done.”

She explained that she felt overlooked while in the band, stating,

“I didn’t get to really sing in the group. I felt like I was overlooked. That idea has been projected on me. Like, this is your place.”

The 25 year old has finally found her voice and for her, there’s no going back.

“Yes, I can throw ass. But I can also give you a proper eight-count, and I can do ballet, and I can do contemporary dance,” she noted. “If I want to sing this pop ballad, then you’re going to love it! While you see my Black face!”

She attributes her work ethic, which is something she learned from her parents at a very young age, for her resilience and success.

Normani recently dropped a highly sexualized music video for “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B

The two joined forces once again on the track.

It’s the first song to be released from Normani’s forthcoming album.
