Nigerian media personality and influencer Ifedayo Agoro, popularly known as Diary of a Naija Girl, is standing firm on her personal stance against the tradition of brides kneeling to feed their grooms during wedding ceremonies.
In the face of widespread backlash following her recent comments on the practice, she took to her Instagram page to reaffirm her convictions.
In the statement shared on her Instagram account, Ifedayo wrote: “I said what I said. I didn’t kneel. I do not kneel. Anyone who chooses to kneel is free to, and I genuinely respect their choice. I started Diary of a Naija Girl in November 2015 and one thing has remained constant: I live according to my convictions. Not trends. Not pressure. Not applause.”

Moving further, she noted that her mindset has given her peace, and a home where she is her real self and is fully loved. She then ended: “May the lives we choose bring us peace, fulfilment and kindness and may God keep us alive to continue to live our truths fully.”
The controversy stems from Ifedayo’s appearance on the podcast Middle Ground with Frank and Ife where she openly discussed her wedding experience. She revealed that while she fed her husband cake during the ceremony, she deliberately chose not to kneel, explaining that she did not want to act hypocritically by performing a gesture she does not practice in her daily life or believe in.
