Nollywood actress Blessing Onwukwe has opened up about her biggest career breakthrough since joining the industry since 2009 following the massive success of actress Uche Montana’s hit film Monica.
In a recent interview with Yanga fm, Onwukwe expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to her by Montana who had reached out to her appealing to her to feature in the movie. In her words: “She just called me up one morning and said: ‘Aunty B I hope tell me you’re available, i don’t see anybody in this role’. So I asked her to send me the script.”
When asked about how much she was paid for her role, the actress said; “I was paid over ₦1 million for ‘Monica 2’ and it’s the highest I’ve received for a movie,” she said.

The actress also shared insights into the rapid production of the popular drama series. “We shot ‘Monica 1’ in five days and ‘Monica 2’ within seven days,” she revealed.
Monica 2, which continues the story of family pressures, sacrifices, and emotional turmoil, has taken Nollywood’s YouTube scene by storm. The sequel, starring Uche Montana in the lead role alongside Onwukwe and Joseph Momodu, reportedly amassed millions of views within days of release.
Onwukwe’s portrayal of the complex and demanding “Mama Monica” has been a major talking point. Her powerful, emotionally charged performance has earned praises, however it also sparked intense online debates with some fans struggling to separate the character from the actress.
In other interviews, she addressed the backlash, noting that while she anticipated attention, the level of personal attacks caught her off guard.
