It is disrespectful- Terry G fires back at Portable comparisons

Veteran Nigerian musician Gabriel Oche Amanyi, known as Terry G, has voiced his discontent regarding comparisons to his younger counterpart, Portable, calling such likenesses “disrespectful.”

In a recent tweet, Terry G emphasized his consistency and enduring musical legacy, pointing out that his music remains popular and relevant over a decade later.

He wrote: “Comparing me to Portable is disrespectful because I actually have music people listen to 10 years later.”

With hits like “Akpako” and “Free Madness,” Terry G has built a reputation for his eclectic and provocative style, blending elements of Afrobeats, dancehall, and street-hop.

Despite both artists being known for their bold and eccentric approaches to music, Terry G believes his longevity and continued relevance set him apart from Portable.

The two artists have collaborated in the past, with Portable featuring Terry G on his song “Ogbafia” and both appearing on C Prince’s “Koba.”
