The tragic passing of Beverly Afaglo underscores a devastating period for the West African film industry, which has been hit by a succession of high-profile deaths in 2026:

Alex Ekubo (May 2026): On May 12, the African movie scene was plunged into mourning following the death of 40-year-old actor Alex Ekubo.

His family confirmed he passed away on Monday, May 11, at Evercare Hospital following a brief but brave battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

Solomon Akiyesi (April 2026): Last month, the prominent actor and producer passed away peacefully in his sleep in Abuja, a loss later confirmed by Abubakar Yakubu, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

Aunty Ajara (February 2026):The Yoruba movie sector lost the beloved actress in February after her prolonged fight with an illness.

Allwell Ademola (Early 2026): Aunty Ajara’s death came while the industry was still reeling from the sudden passing of veteran actress Allwell Ademola, who suffered a fatal heart attack at her home.

Her death triggered a wave of tributes from close colleagues, including Damola Olatunji, Mr. Latin, Faithia Williams, and Bidemi Kosoko.
