Izu Ojukwu’s ’76’ is coming to Netflix

Izu Ojukwu’s multi-award winning movie, 76 is premiering globally on Netflix on August 4, 2021.

The 2016 historical fiction film featured amazing performances from Ramsey Nouah, Chidi Mokeme, Rita Dominic, and also Ibinabo Fiberesima.

The director took to his Instagram account to share the news on Friday. He wrote, 

“It’s been almost a decade since this picture, one so personal to me, was released in the cinemas. Since its theatrical run, I have been asked several times when it would be available for timeless consumption. And I am glad to announce that 76 would open globally on Netflix on August 4. As always, I thank you for your invaluable support.”

Film Synopsis

Set six years after the civil war, a young officer from the Middle Belt gets into a romantic relationship with an O-level student from the South-eastern region. However, their relationship isn’t as smooth as they would’ve liked, due to constant military postings. In addition, the soldier gets accused of having a hand in the unsuccessful 1976 military coup and assassination of General Murtala Mohammed, and his heavily pregnant wife gets entangled in an emotional dilemma.

76′ released to critical acclaim in 2016. The film also screened at the Toronto International film Festival in 2016.

The movie stars Ramsey Nouah, Rita Dominic, Chidi Mokeme, Memry Savanhu, Daniel K. Daniel, Larry Williams, and Adonija Owiriwa.

The story went through a seven-month approval period at the Nigerian Military before filming started.
