Jennifer Hudson to Play Aretha Franklin in Upcoming Biopic “Respect”

Coming to theatres in 2020, an Aretha Franklin biopic will be released and guess who will play the late legendary soul singer? None other than Jennifer Hudson.

Deadline reports that the movie “Respect”, will take a look at Aretha Franklin’s journey from her days as a standout young chorister to a famous and well-respected international superstar.

Jennifer Hudson is not a stranger to singing and acting as she gained experience and our adoration during her portrayal of Effie White in the 2006 movie, “Dreamgirls”, a role which earned her an Oscar and permanent world recognition as a powerhouse vocalist.

Asides from these facts, the former “American Idol” finalist and “The Voice” coach might be said to have earned the blessing of the late Aretha Franklin as she was one of the performers personally requested by the 17-time Grammy Award winner to perform at her home going service, while she was fatally sick.

“Respect” is going to be produced by Scott Bernstein (“Straight Outta Compton”) with hopes that the movie will break charts.

The studio has announced August 14, 2020 as the tentative date for the movie’s release.
