Kanayo O Kanayo weighs into sex-for-role controversy in Nollywood

Nigerian actor, Kanayo O Kanayohas aired his view on the controversial sex-for-role claims in Nollywood.

The lawyer, taking to his Instagram page on Wednesday, advised people not believe such claims as they are not always true.

Also, he stated that females actresses are not doing enough in the roles given to them to carry out.

Kanayo O Kanayo said “When you hear of sex for roles in Nollywood, please do not believe all you are told. Many of the girls are not working hard to live up to the roles they are cast for. Quite a shame.”

For sometime now, the topic of sex-for-roles in Nollywood has been a major talking point among social media users in Nigeria.

In September 2021, some persons allegedly accused the Odunlade Adekola of demanding sex from females craving a role in his movies.

In a video posted on his Instagram page, the actor the actor vehemently denied the accusations.

Adekola said “You don’t need to reply to everything, that’s why you’re a celebrity. But there are some things that they will say about you and you need to clear it, let me clear this one.

“They said that I normally ask for sex before giving anybody a role. They said that I ask them for sex before giving them a role in my movie, me???

“I’m saying this now, and I’m putting it to every one of them, everybody that has passed through me, all the ladies that have through me. It is only God that can make you a star, nobody can make you a star.

“But every one of them, I mean the ladies, if I’ve ever asked you for sex before I gave you any role, please come out and say it under this video. If you’re among those saying such, come forward with your proof; but if you don’t do that, you’ll experience God’s wrath.

“You will prosper, you will be great, but I need to clear this. Just come out and say it under this video, anyone that is in that shoe. I just have to come out and say this and clear it because of the young ones that are coming into the industry later, I just have to do this.”

Adekola added “If I ever asked you for sex before giving you a job, come out and say it.

“I wouldn’t call those blogs because I can’t give them publicity for free. I joined Nollywood in 1996. I’ve been trying to build my name to this level and some people would try to ruin my image just to put food on their table.

“They are trying to mislead my fans just to bring me down. Anybody trying to bring me down God will bring them down.

“I need proof that I asked anyone for sex before giving any movie role. I just had to come out and clear this because of young ones coming to the industry.”
