Karl Lagerfeld Created a Winter Wonderland for his final Chanel show

It was an epoch-making morning for Chanel when the iconic fashion house, this Tuesday, opened its catwalk at the Grand Palais in Paris.  Models including Cara Delevingne, Penelope Cruz and Kaia Gerber walked the runway set in a picturesque winter wonderland, displaying the AW19 collection by late Karl Lagerfeld.

The late creative director, Lagerfeld, was known for his taste for fantastic runway displays and this year was no different as he went for an alpine setting, taking guests to snowy mountains, icy trees and cozy chalets. There were Chanel skis, snow catwalk and even faux smoke puffin out of chimneys.

The loss of Lagerfeld was marked by a minute’s silence by the guests at the show. According to MailOnline, the silence was only broken by a recording of the late Karl’s voice.

The runway ended to a standing ovation, a sign of the celebration of Karl Lagerfeld’s unrivalled legacy. It was an emotional show as well; few models were caught wiping away tears during the show’s final moments.

A keepsake was given to guests in tribute to the visionary designer – an illustration of Karl Lagerfeld, with his signature ponytail, sunglasses and suit standing beside Coco Chanel and the words “The beat goes on”.

Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel’s creative director, passed away at the age of 85 at the American Hospital in Paris where he had been admitted a day before.

His loss will be felt heavily by the fashion industry.
