Kemi Adetiba Reflects on Her Iconic Films, Looks to the Future

Expressing gratitude in a heartfelt post, acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Kemi Adetiba, has shared five of her most beloved films that have captured the hearts of Nigerians.

The films include “Wedding Party 1 and 2”, “King of Boys”, “King of Boys: The Return of the King”, and her latest hit “To Kill A Monkey”. Adetiba expressed her gratitude for the success of her films, stating she’s “super excited for the big 5” while admitting to feeling nervous about the challenge ahead.

As written in her caption: “Thank you for a great run so far. Super excited for the big 5. Nervous… But I love a good challenge!!”

Taking a look at each of her iconic works starting with her movie that became one of the highest grossing film of all time is the Wedding Party (2016) which later on had a second part. A romantic comedy exploring the complexities of Nigerian weddings, class clashes, and overbearing in-laws starring Adesua Etomi, Banky W, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and Sola Sobowale.

King of Boys, released in 2018, is a crime drama that follows the story of Eniola Salami, a powerful Yoruba woman directing Lagos’ underworld of politics, corruption, and power struggles starring Sola Sobowale, Illbliss, Reminisce, Toni Tones, and Nse Ikpe-Etim.

King of Boys- the Return of the King came back in 2021 as a 7-part limited series that continues Eniola Salami’s story as she aims for governor, facing ghosts from her past, rival gangs, and dirty politics starring Sola Sobowale, Illbliss, Reminisce, Toni Tones, and Nse Ikpe-Etim.

Her latest project To Kill A Monkey release in July 2025 is a supernatural-tinged crime drama exploring cybercrime, friendship, and moral compromise starring William Benson, Bucci Franklin, Lillian Afegbai, Stella Damasus, Bimbo Akintola, and Chidi Mokeme.

Adetiba’s films have consistently pushed the boundaries of Nollywood storytelling, with themes of morality, power, and human complexity. With her unique blend of drama, power, and stylish storytelling, Adetiba has cemented her position as one of Nollywood’s most innovative filmmakers and as she embarks on her next project, fans and critics alike are eagerly anticipating what she has in store.
