Television presenter Morayo Afolabi-Brown has spoken out after receiving a phone call from an aggrieved Nigerian who reportedly rained curses on her for the questions she asked guests on her show.

The host of The Morayo Show revealed on social media that the caller was upset about some of the interviews she had conducted and expressed their displeasure by verbally attacking her.

Afolabi-Brown said she has faced criticism on several occasions for the questions she has posed to guests on her programme.

Listing the number of times she has been criticised, the media personality disclosed that she was called out for asking former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola about religion and actress Ireti Doyle about her marriage.

She admitted that the latest incident left her disturbed, noting that she never imagined anyone would attack her simply for doing her job. The media personality added that such behaviour was unfamiliar to her because she was not raised in an environment where cursing people was considered acceptable.

Defending her approach, Afolabi-Brown stressed that asking questions is a fundamental part of her profession. She pointed to her decades of experience in the media industry, saying she has earned the right to ask tough and relevant questions.

She further explained that she always respects her guests’ boundaries, revealing that some are given their questions in advance, while others specify topics they would prefer not to discuss.

She said: “First it was why I asked Mr Fashola about religion. Then, it was why I asked Aunty Ireti Doyle about her marriage. Then they questioned why I asked my guest about his experience at a widely publicised funeral. Now this? News Flash, I’m no novice.

“I have earned the place to ask questions as I deem fit. As long as my guests don’t feel humiliated, disappointed or dishonoured,
I’ve done my job and adhered to the vision on my show”.
