Basirat Damilola Marshall, the daughter of renowned Fuji music icon King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall popularly known as KWAM1 or K1 De Ultimate, has officially declared her political ambition to contest for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Marshall, also known as Barrister Bashirat Damilola Ayinde Marshall or Dami Marshall, is aiming to represent Surulere Constituency II in the upcoming 2027 general elections, transitioning from an appointed government role into active elective politics.
Marshall is currently serving as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, a position she was appointed to in May 2024.
Her father, KWAM1, one of Nigeria’s most influential Fuji musicians with deep roots in Lagos and Ijebu society, has long been a prominent figure in entertainment and social circles.
Generating a buzz on social media, some netizens highlighted her Ijebu heritage and questioned her connection to Surulere, which is a cosmopolitan area, while some noted that she has high chances of winning as her father has political influence with the ruling party in the country and in the state, the All Progressive Congress (APC).
