The Chief of Staff to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Tayo Ayinde, on Saturday led a delegation of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Lagos State, on a condolence visit to the family of the late Nollywood veteran Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, in Ilaro, Ogun State.
Ayinde, who also serves as the Lagos State Ambassador of the group, described Ogogo as a cultural icon whose long career helped promote Yoruba identity, language and values through film and theatre.
He noted that the actor’s contributions extended beyond the screen and played a key role in the growth of indigenous-language cinema in Nigeria.

The veteran actor died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after a battle with stage-four cancer. He was buried the next day in his hometown of Ilaro according to Islamic rites.
Speaking during the visit, Ayinde expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. “Ogogo was more than an accomplished actor; he was a cultural icon whose career helped project Yoruba identity, language and values to a wider audience,” he said.
He prayed that God grant the late actor eternal rest and give his widow, children and the entire Hassan family the strength to bear the loss.
Ayinde stressed that Ogogo’s body of work would continue to keep his memory alive and inspire future generations. The delegation included senior members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Lagos State.
