Two years after the tragic death of Nollywood actor Johnpaul Obumneme Odonwodo, popularly known as Jnr Pope, his widow, Jennifer Awele, has shared an emotional and deeply personal tribute, revealing the lasting pain and emptiness his absence has left in their home.
In her heartfelt message, Awele wrote:
“Nobody has slept in this house in the last 2 years. Clothes still dey the wardrobe. Clothes still dey inside the washing machine. The kitchen is still intact aside from perishables. Your room is still intact down to the toothbrush you used that morning.”
Recounting the painful events of that day, she narrated how she received the devastating news while preparing for a photoshoot on April 10, 2024.
“This day 2 years ago, at some minutes past 3pm, while getting dressed to go for a photoshoot, I received the most devastating call of my life. ‘Awele, the boat JP was on just capsized.’ A part of me held onto the fact that it was a prank.”
She was immediately taken to the scene where she witnessed a large crowd. In a moment she described as shattering, a black Hilux drove past carrying her husband’s lifeless body in the trunk, still dressed in the red shorts he wore when he left home that morning around 10 am.
“I screamed. It was a whole lot,” she wrote. Her blood pressure shot above 210, and she was rushed for medical attention and admitted immediately. The late actor’s wife admitted she was in deep denial, still hoping for a miracle.
The actor tragically lost his life when the boat he was on capsized during a film shoot in Anambra State. His passing remains one of the most painful losses in the Nigerian entertainment industry in recent years.
