Lead City varsity confers Tunde Kelani with honorary doctorate degree

Lead City University has conferred Nigerian filmmaker, Tunde Kelani, with honorary doctorate degree.

The filmmaker, taking to his Instagram page on Tuesday, thanked everyone who took part in the journey.

He wrote “It is now on record that on the 12th day of the 12th month of the year 2022, I was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) by Lead City University, Ibadan, one of the leading universities in Nigeria.

“I hereby thank my family and friends. associates, supporters, collaborators, benefactors and professional colleagues for being part of my journey.

“Your love, support and encouragement over the past few decades have finally paid off. I am grateful. God bless you all. Dr. TK.”

In a career spanning more than four decades, Tunde Kelani specialises in producing movies that promote Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and have a root in documentation, archiving, education, entertainment and promotion of the culture.

In 2021,TK released ‘Ayinla’, a film which detailed the life and times of the late Àpàlà musician, Ayinla Yusuf, popularly known as Ayinla Omowura.

Ayinla was a rising superstar before his death on May 6, 1980 in his hometown of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He was stabbed in the head with a glass during a beer parlor brawl and died from the incident. He was 47.

Furthermore, the film, shot in the city of Abeokuta is set in the 1970s and early 1980s.

The teaser trailer shows Adedimeji Lateef as the legendary Ayinla, alongside Kunle Afolayan, Omawunmi Dada, Debo Macaroni. The film also stars Bimbo Manuel, Bimbo Ademoye and Ade Laoye.
