Letitia Wright hospitalized after accident during Black Panther sequel filming

Letitia Wright, who plays the Wakandan princess, Shuri in Black Panther has been hospitalized.

The 27-year-old actress sustained minor injuries after she was involved in a stunt rig accident on the set of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

A Marvel spokesperson confirmed the incident in a statement released to the press. The spokesperson said, “Letitia Wright sustained minor injuries today while filming a stunt for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ She is currently receiving care in a local hospital and is expected to be released soon”.

The unfortunate accident took place while filming in Boston. However, Wright’s injuries are not expected to impact the movie’s production schedule.

Letitia Wright is returning as Shuri, a Wakandan princess, accomplished inventor and sister to the King T’challa. Ryan Coogler also returns to direct the sequel to the 2018 box office hit, Black Panther.

Black Panther starred Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba and Angela Bassett. All of who will be reprising their roles except Chadwick Boseman who unfortunately passed away in August 2020.

Wright also appeared as Shuri in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

The sequel, titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set for release on July 8 2022.

Back in December 2020, Marvel President Kevin Feige spoke on how the death of Boseman would affect the movie. He confirmed that the role of T’Challa/Black Panther will not be recast. Instead, the sequel will center on other characters in the fictional nation of Wakanda.

“To honor the legacy that Chad helped us build through his portrayal of the King of Wakanda, we will continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film,” Feige said during Disney’s investor day presentation.
