LeToya Luckett Breaks Down in Tears Over Destiny’s Child Exit

LeToya Luckett, former Destiny’s Child singer broke down in tears while speaking about life after her exit from the defunct music group nearly two decades ago.

Speaking in an Instagram Live Session, Luckett revealed she had a difficult transition and couldn’t adjust to the normal life after living in the fast-lane during her time with the famous girl group as she was left homeless.

“Coming out of that, I wasn’t the most secure person because I was so used to having a team mentality and to think of going out on my own was terrifying,” she said. “The thought of singing made me angry. I didn’t believe I had a voice, I didn’t believe I could sing; I didn’t believe I could return to the music industry.

“I’m not gonna lie to you, after DC I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I was about 18 years old, I hadn’t lived as a normal teenager, I hadn’t gone to college.

“During my journey I was staying at people’s house, I never told these stories before — I slept in a car in L.A. while I was making my first [solo] album,” she explained. “Not a lot of nights, but you know what I’m saying?”

Luckett’s time with the girl group

The 39-year-old was an original member of the chart-topping girl group which was formed in 1993 along with Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and LeTavia Roberson. Luckett was booted from the group after a conflict with Beyonce‘s father, Mathew Knowles who was the band’s manager.

Luckett and Roberson were later replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin. Luckette went on to file a lawsuit against Mathew but the case was settled out of court.

The 39-year-old singer further revealed how devastating making a living was.

“I’m not gonna lie to you, after DC I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I was about 18 years old, I hadn’t lived as a normal teenager, I hadn’t gone to college,” she explained.

“I was drinking a gallon of water and buying the microwavable Oodles of Noodles. And I was like cooking them on the coffee pot in the hotel.”

She started to cry and added “Yeah. It was a lot. I was uncomfortable for a minute.”

She explained that she managed to get back on her feet after landing first acting gig in the 2010 movie Preacher’s Kid.

“I went after my first role – Preacher’s Kid and got it – and that got me out of that hotel. I was uncomfortable for a minute.”

“Make a long story short, after surrendering and getting to know God on a whole ‘nother level. I learned to surrender, get out of my own way; stop living in fear and allow him to direct my path.”

Luckett has since starred in a number of TV shows with three solo studio albums, and is now pregnant with her second child. She got married to Tommicus Walker in 2017.
