In the early hours of October 6, 2020, Nigerian recording artiste David Adeleke, better known as Davido, cancelled the contract of the promising musician Lil Frosh, who was signed to his record label, Davido’s Music World (DMW).
The termination emerged following allegations that the then 21-year-old musician, Lil Frosh, was physically assaulting his girlfriend, Gift Camille. The allegation sets off the downward spiral of Frosh’s budding music career, as he has been unable to sign a major record deal since, nor has he been able to record a significant hit.
His music career ended before it officially took off.

What Really Happened?
Lil Frosh, whose real name is Sanni Goriola, got officially signed into Davido’s record label, DMW, on the 24th of September 2019, after leaving his former label “Aloma Music Worldwide” for what he termed “irreconcilable differences”.

One year after the deal, Frosh was accused of beating his ex-girlfriend, Gift Camille, by her brother and manager, Michael. Michael had gone to the micro-blogging platform, X (at the time known as Twitter), to narrate the series of events, stating that Lil Frosh had been assaulting his sister for a while now. He attached pictures of his sister looking battered and bruised to his thread.
Soon after, the news was made public that Davido’s music label, Davido Music Worldwide, had terminated its contract with the young artiste, Lil Frosh, following the troubling allegations.
Davido released the statement on his social media platforms to announce the decision at the time.

He wrote:
“In light of the recent allegations made against Mr. Sanni Goriola Wasiu aka Lil Frosh, we would like to state that as a record label, domestic violence is not a trivial matter and we will never support or condone such behaviour,” it read in part.

They Were Caused By Allergies, Not Assault

Lil Frosh has since come out to deny the allegations, claiming that his ex-girlfriend’s swollen face was simply an allergy.
According to the singer-songwriter, his partner was having an allergy that caused her face to swell up and inflicted a boil right behind her left ear. He said the condition only worsened over time.
“I didn’t do it. I didn’t beat this girl up. She’s my girlfriend. She called me saying she noticed she’s having a boil at the back of her ear. I asked what it was and she said maybe it’s an allergic reaction,” the singer explained.
“I called her once to ask how she was doing. And she said she’s not feeling fine. She said that thing is getting worse.
“She’s sending pictures to me day by day. The progression of the allergic reaction. Yes. It happened for seven days. I love her so much even after all these, I’m speaking my truth. I didn’t do it.”

Decline and Regrets, Lil Frosh Reflects

The budding singer-songwriter has come out to state that he regrets ever being in a relationship with Camille.
It is important to note that Camille has since withdrawn her case against Lil Frosh in 2022, after settling out of court. Davido never reinstated the singer to DMW.
Speaking in a recent interview with Clout Africa, Lil Frosh said he has been struggling career-wise since Davido abruptly terminated his contract due to his ex-girlfriend’s allegations.
While maintaining his innocence, Lil Frosh said he regretted having a girlfriend, stressing that his ex-girlfriend’s “false allegations” have stunted his music career.
He said, “My ex-girlfriend’s claims that she got beaten by me is false accusation, I won’t lie to you. I know nothing about it. And immediately she posted it online, I got kicked out of DMW.
“I left the record label the 6th of October, 2020, and since then I have been independent. I want my fans to know that I am not capable of assault. I am a cool guy. The way some people are judgemental about things they see online is alarming.
“If I had the opportunity to go back in time and change somethings, I swear, I won’t have a girlfriend. I regret having a girlfriend.”
Lil Frosh pleaded with fans to beg Davido to reinstate him to DMW.

Are Male Celebrities Protected?

Male celebrities are often guilty until proven innocent. The public usually allows male celebrities to defend themselves before they are defamed and demeaned by society; this has been the case for several years. Hollywood actor Johnny Depp was accused of domestic violence and physical assault by his ex-wife, Amber Heard. This caused significant turmoil in his personal and professional life.
In Nigeria, notable celebrities such as Paul Okoye were accused of rape by social media users. Most recently, reality star Neo Akpofure had to threaten a lawsuit against a lady who claimed he molested her. While perpetrators of molestation and abuse should face the wrath of the law, male celebrities and men should equally be protected, and those who cry wolf should equally face consequences for instigating false alarms.
