In 2024, he achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first African artist to perform at a sold-out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, entertaining a crowd of 45,000 fans. However, this triumph was soon followed by a devastating loss when his mother, Mrs. Jane Dolapo Balogun, passed away to cancer on August 18, 2024. Despite the challenges he faced, Wizkid persevered, and the documentary captures his journey in a raw and unfiltered manner.
The film features intimate interviews with key figures in his life and career, including Femi Kuti and Jada Pollock, offering a glimpse into the experiences that have shaped Wizkid into the artist he is today. “Wizkid: Long Live Lagos” will premiere at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York in June 2025. The documentary will be screened on June 6, 7, and 11, 2025, giving fans a unique opportunity to witness Wizkid’s remarkable story unfold on the big screen.
Wizkid expressed his excitement about the documentary, saying, “We made this documentary when life got crazy for me. Playing Tottenham Hotspur stadium while dealing with life! Glad I get to have my amazing fans and family on this journey with me. This is love! From a real place!”
