Lupita Nyong’o Visits Benin Ahead Of “Warrior Women” Documentary
Oscar Award winning Kenyan-Mexican actress, Lupita Nyong’o is set to air a one-off documentary about the warrior women of Agoji as portrayed in the 2018 blockbuster movie, “Black Panther”.
The tale narrates the life of the army women of Agoji who are said to have inspired the Dora Milaje army in Black Panther movie.
Nyong’o, who Visited Benin recently to get first-hand facts and experience from the women, shared photos from the exciting times spent with them.
Lupita could be seen dressed as a simple black women amidst fellows who helped a great deal in her research.
She wrote on Instagram: “I had an extremely rewarding adventure visiting Benin to find out the deeper story behind the prolific warrior women known as the Agoji, that inspired the Dora Milaje in our movie #BlackPanther. Join me on the journey tonight. #WarriorWomen with Lupita Nyong’o airs in the UK at 10pm on @Channel4.”
Interestingly, Nyong’o’s tales from Benin have been described as Oscar-deserving and whether or not that comes true, the bold move she made of daring to tell stories of strong, African women proves Nyong’o’s resilience in using her Global prominence to accentuate African values.
The Agoji warriors were a fierce all-female army who were so ruthless that European colonists called them the Amazons after the merciless warriors of Greek mythology. Laudably, the descendants of these women still keep their traditions alive.
