Reality TV star and actor Pere Egbi has called on the Nigeria Immigration Service to deny South African singer Tyla and her team entry into the country.
This call out follows reports that Ayra Starr’s scheduled performance in South Africa was cancelled over alleged visa issues.
The controversy began after reports emerged that Ayra Starr and members of her team were allegedly denied South African visas just days before her planned concert, forcing the cancellation of the show.
The development reignited conversations about the treatment of Nigerians in South Africa, with many fans linking it to long-standing concerns over xenophobia.
Reacting to the reports, Pere took to X, urging Nigerian immigration authorities to respond with similar measures against Tyla. In his post, he wrote, “Madness must match madness,” arguing that Nigerians should not continue welcoming South African entertainers while Nigerian artistes face difficulties entering the country.

However, activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore disagreed with the growing calls to boycott Tyla’s planned Nigerian concert. Sowore argued that Nigerians should direct their frustrations at the country’s leadership, claiming that governance failures have contributed to how citizens are treated abroad.
Pere later responded to Sowore’s remarks, insisting that his comments were aimed at addressing what he described as xenophobic attitudes toward Nigerians rather than blaming the Nigerian government. He maintained that the issue should not be politicised but viewed as a matter of fairness and reciprocity.
