Nigerian singer Niniola Apata has paid an emotional tribute to her late husband, Michael Ndika, during a moving service of songs held in his honour on Thursday, June 4th, 2026.
The vocal powerhouse, amidst a gathering of close family, friends, and prominent figures from the entertainment industry, described her late husband as the absolute “engine” of her life and career.
The songtress, who struggled to contain her grief, spoke about the profound impact her late partner had on her existence.

Reflecting on their deep bond, she revealed the immense devotion he showed throughout their time together.
She said: “I met him and fell in love with him. We did stuff before I even dropped the first single. My story with Michael is a long story.”
She continued, “Michael did everything for me. He was breathing for me. He loved me so much. And I learnt so much from Michael. He showed me the ropes. I got to meet his friends. Because, naturally, I am a loner. I love being alone.
“When Michael met me raw, he said ‘I will make you a superstar’. And he did. I was just the face and the voice, but Michael was the engine.”
Niniola said the talent manager had encouraged her to continue making music even when she considered stepping away.
She added, “Even when I decided to give music a break, he did not let me. The first person I saw in the morning was Michael. And the last person before I close my eyes was Michael. He was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
The Afro-house star, known for her energetic stage presence and chart-topping hits, painted a picture of her husband who was not only a romantic partner but also her greatest champion and visionary.
