Michelle Obama Wins Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album

Former first lady Michelle Obama has also won a Grammy award for the audio-book of her memoir Becoming on Sunday at the 62nd annual Grammy awards.

Obama won the award for the Best Spoken Word Album. She was among the early winners announced.

She beat out fellow nominees the Beastie Boys for their Beastie Boys Book; Eric Alexandrakis for I.V. Catatonia: 20 Years As A Two-Time Cancer Survivor; John Waters  for Mr. Know-It-All; and Sekou Andrews for Sekou Andrews & The String Theory.

The award winning author surprised the world when she made an appearance last year during the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards. The audio-book, Becoming, which shares her journey from a little girl from the South Side of Chicago to lawyer and the First Lady of the United States.

She joins the ranks of her husband, former president Barack Obama who won twice, in 2008 for The Audacity of Hope and again in 2006 for Dreams From My Father.
