A video showing Nollywood actress Funke Akindele and her junior colleague, Tobi Makinde, at the premiere of Love and New Notes, produced by Timini Egbuson, has stirred reactions on social media.
The star-studded premiere, which held in Lagos, attracted top Nollywood actors, content creators, and musicians. With an 80s-inspired fashion theme, the event delivered a nostalgic and vibrant atmosphere.
Celebrities in attendance included Timini Egbuson, Eniola Badmus, Funke Akindele, Omowunmi Dada, Kamo State, Peller, Tobi Makinde, and several others.
However, social media users were quick to notice that Akindele and Makinde who have shared a long-standing mentor-mentee relationship did not publicly acknowledge each other at the event.
In a now-viral clip, Makinde and his wife, Toyin are seen speaking to the press while Akindele stands at a distance during her own red carpet interview. The two did not exchange greetings in public, a moment that has since fueled online speculation.

Makinde has previously referred to Akindele as his “industry mother,” crediting her for shaping his early career and giving him opportunities through the popular series Jenifa’s Diary, where he played the role of Timothy.
Their recent public absences from each other’s major life and career milestones have also drawn attention. Akindele was noticeably absent at Makinde’s wedding ceremony, while Makinde did not feature in Akindele’s recent film project, Behind the Scenes, nor attend its premiere.

Although neither party has publicly addressed the situation, the developments have sparked mixed reactions online.
One user wrote, “So if her hubby no greet as a new wife wey no sabi Funke from anywhere, make she gbaza enter her face?”
Another commented, “Na every week una dey start agenda. Since Feb 1st, Funke never rest… It is well.”
A third user remarked, “Sad this mother and son relationship just ended like that. I pray they reconcile.”
