Mr Ibu seeks public support for Medical Expenses
Renowned Nollywood actor, John Okafor, widely recognized as Mr. Ibu, has recently been hospitalized.
He is seeking financial assistance from fellow Nigerians to cover his medical expenses.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday the ailing actor was seen lying on a hospital bed as he explained that he has been unwell for several weeks and has not been responding to treatment.
With great difficulty, he expressed the distressing possibility of having to undergo a leg amputation should he be unable to receive the necessary medical care.
He said:
“While I am hoping for prayers and assistance, as I speak to you I am still lying down in the hospital. The medical director of this hospital said that in case his new idea does not work, the next idea is to cut off my leg. Just see me, if they cut off my leg where would I go? Pray for me, I don’t want my leg to be cut off, thank you so much, God, bless you”.
In the video, Okafor’s wife and daughter joined him, appealing to the Nigerian community for support through prayers and financial assistance.
The daughter revealed that she has been covering her father’s medical expenses throughout his illness.
She emphasized the family’s desire to transport him abroad for advanced medical care.
She said, “I’ve been the one handling the bills and I am financially drained, we can’t do it alone. He’s not getting better, some days it looks like he is and other days it looks like he is getting worse.
“We are still at the hospital and they want to transfer him to another hospital because he is not getting better. We want to appeal to Nigerian individuals or organisations to please fly daddy abroad for better treatment. This is not the first time daddy is down like this.”
John Okafor, the iconic actor and comedian, marked his 62nd birthday while hospitalized, spending the day with his family on October 17.
In a video shared on his social media, Okafor, although in pain, sat before his birthday cake, with a visibly swollen leg.
His fans and supporters have been pouring out love, prayers, and assistance following this announcement.
