Choosing a favourite musician is predominantly about a deep connection with the style of music, personal choice, and perceived value. Some people love Portable, despite being one of the most controversial musicians in the Nigerian entertainment industry; he has his followers, and he is one of the most influential musicians in the creeks and ghetto areas in Nigeria, especially the southwestern part of the country.

For anti-establishment lyrics, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was the poster boy. He waged war against the government and the ruling class; he took matters into his hands and was fearless until his dying day in 1997.

Due to Fela’s charisma and tenacity, he was able to influence a generation that was, at the time, demeaned and controlled by military rule. Unlike his contemporaries, Fela spoke his mind unapologetically, inadvertently gathering a coterie of people who became lovers of ‘Abami eda’, which means spiritual being.

Fela inspired modern-day artistes such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Falz, who have equally gone on to achieve mainstream prominence.
