My biggest regret is not becoming a lawyer – Shatta Wale

Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., the popular Ghanaian dancehall artist better known as Shatta Wale, has expressed his greatest regret in life – not pursuing a career as a lawyer.

Despite his accomplishments as a multi-award-winning musician, he still feels a sense of unfulfillment.

In a recent interview with Stefania Okereke of the BBC, Shatta Wale candidly said, “My biggest regret in life is that I didn’t become a lawyer.”

He further revealed that he is still contemplating the possibility of becoming a lawyer in the future, explaining, “I might pursue a career in law when I accumulate enough resources. I acknowledge my achievements as a musician, but my original aspiration was to become a lawyer.”

Shatta Wale expressed his desire to be seen as a “nice guy,” despite being aware that not everyone perceives him this way.

After changing his name to “Bandana” following senior high school, he released the hit track “Bandana from Ghana” in 2004.

Bandana garnered significant attention in the Ghanaian music industry.

Shatta Wale’s breakthrough came in 2013 at the VGMA awards when he vehemently criticized VGMA for not awarding him the Dancehall artist of the year.

He claimed they favored a female Dancehall artist, “Kaakie.”

His song, although containing vulgar lyrics, generated immense media attention and contributed to his musical success.

In 2013, his biggest hit song, “Dancehall King,” took the airwaves by storm.

Shatta Wale primarily generates his musical revenue through hosting shows that attract thousands of Ghanaian youths.
